A woman lies naked on a sofa or bed covered by an orange sheet, a dark red curtain forms the background. The woman does not look at the viewer, her eyes do not seem to look at any real objects at all. The painting of the Brazilian painter Virgílio Maurício (1892-1937) plays with the symbols of erotic passion, but of course a passion that has just peaked. The title leaves the imagination of the viewer free space, a dream can mean anything. Has the lover just left the camp or is the beauty really awakening from a dream? And what did she dream? The intense reds refer to love and passion, but the look of the awakened seems rather restrained. And unlike some of the paintings of Francois Boucher, the French rococo painter, who is representative of his painting "Resting Girl (Mademoiselle OMurphy)", the image of the Brazilian does not look provocative.
