"Summer Evening at Skagen Beach - Artist and his Wife" is one of the most famous paintings of the artist Peder Severin Krøyer. It shows him walking with his wife Marie and his dog Rap in the moonlight on the beach. As early as 1895, Krøyer wrote: "I am also thinking about painting a big portrait with my wife and myself - but I definitely need good weather, so it will not be this year." Four years later, he finally created his large painting. Maybe the 10-year anniversary was a reason to finally implement his plan. But the picture still has a melancholy tone. Krøyer says Skagen looks so boring in bright sunlight, but when the sun goes down and the moon rises from the sea, the landscape becomes beautiful.
