| The noble baroque frame Sylvia is a prime example of consummate craftsmanship. First, the elaborately designed frame made of real wood receives a chalk base, then a layer of red and brown poliment, the traditional adhesive base for metal leaf. The picture framers then cover the frame by hand with silver leaf, carefully rubbing the silver coating through onto the poliment and finally applying a subtle patina. The result is a picture frame in the Baroque style that can be considered a work of art in its own right. |
