Hardly a writer has been portrayed as often as George Gordon Noel Byron, 6th Baron Byron - better known as Lord Byron. Among others, Thomas Phillips, Richard Westall, Joseph Denis Odevaere and just Theodore Gericault painted the influential author of the British late Romanticism, who created the archetype of the modern anti-hero with the "Byronic Hero". Byron's companions included John Polidori (author of the first vampire novel), Percy Shelley and his wife Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein or Modern Prometheus, the first sci-fi novel). Other important literary figures such as Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Heinrich Heine and Edgar Allan Poe were influenced by Byron and devoted parts of their works to him.
