The rays of light can be seen as the highlight of the composition when they shine out from behind the colorful clouds like sunbeams and illuminate the scene in a variety of directions. The iridescent band of clouds in reddish tones seems to protect the viewer from too bright a light and takes on the function of sunglasses. On the one hand, the rays of light present themselves in a warm yellow that is derived directly from the sun and can be seen above the clouds as they radiate into the higher sky. On the other hand, they take on a cooler shade of blue as they emerge from below the clouds and first cross the red of the clouds to be attenuated by them before plunging into the sea.
The sea in the oil painting is criss-crossed by numerous elongated islands, all winding towards the distant horizon. They appear like outstretched arms that seem to capture the remaining daylight in order to shine brighter themselves. The elongated islands, which move at an appropriate distance from each other, are painted in strong dark colors, mainly shades of brown.
The painting is mainly dominated by the colors orange, brown, red and yellow, contrasted by the distant blue.
The composition of the painting was freely invented and created in the studio in Berlin Mitte, following the laws of harmonious form. The color scheme, on the other hand, is provocative and bold, not radiating absolute calm, but intentionally showing a controlled energetic restlessness
