Alexandre Dumas is one of those exceptional phenomena in the history of literature whose work is familiar to almost everyone - even if it is due to one of the numerous film adaptations. "The Three Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Christo" are classics of history and adventure novels. The life story of Dumas is also adventurous. His father was a general of the Dragoons and a recognized as a legitimate son son of a French nobleman and his brother's slave. Although acknowledged as a nobleman in 1812, Alexandre Dumas did not receive a good education, but soon emerged as a talented writer. At the age of 20 Dumas went to Paris, worked in the office of the later King Louis-Philippe, wrote first plays and later made the acquaintance of Victor Hugo. In 1830 he actively participated in the July Revolution, but went at a distance to Louis-Philippe. Only then did his novels come into being, for which he is so famous today.
