Frederic Edwin Church was an American artist who traveled a lot. On his travels he made many sketches and photos of the landscape he saw. At home in his studio he painted precise and impressive landscapes. The places he painted did not really exist but were a combination of his sketches and pictures. One of his pictures he calls "Rainy Season in the Tropics". It is inspired by his Jamaican journey and presented in an amazingly realistic way. Palm trees on the left and mountains on the right frame the misty valley, while a rainbow connects the landscapes. Not only is the picture wonderful to look at, but Church also wanted to give meaning to his work. The interpretations of this picture are very different, but since it was painted in the post-war period, it should probably show hope.
