I have painted the Holy Cave of Montserrat, the place where, according to tradition, an image of the Virgin Mary was found in the year 880. Some shepherd children saw a great light descend from the sky, accompanied by celestial music, which landed halfway up the mountain. The event was repeated several times with the children accompanied by their parents, the parish priest of Olesa de Montserrat and the bishop of Manresa. They approached the place and discovered a cave with the image of the Virgin inside. They wanted to move it in procession to Manresa, but the image became heavier and heavier, to the point that they could not move it. They understood that it was the will of the Virgin that her image be venerated in the mountain where it was located. And this was the origin of the devotion to the Virgin of Montserrat, which has been maintained for centuries to the present day. I have relied on my own photographs and memories to paint the picture. For me it is a sacred and endearing place since my childhood.
