Tilly Willis grew up in a creative and artistic family in Sommerset, England. Her grandfather was a cartoonist, her father was a painter and sculptor, and her older sister planned a career as a painter. Tilly's environment was influenced by art and so she took an advanced course in fine arts in Sommerset and subsequently studied in London. The painter graduated from the independent art school Byam Shaw. The artist still has a studio in her home town of Sommerset. The beautiful surrounding landscapes provide her with constant inspiration. On sunny days bathed in light, she moves outside with her easel.
