Joseph Nash was born in 1809 as the son of an English priest. Early on, Nash developed an understanding of Architektur and art.
During his studies with the architect Augustus Charles Pugin, Joseph Nash began to draw primarily Gothic buildings. At the end of the 1820s, the later lithographer and watercolor painter accompanied his teacher on a study trip to Paris. During this trip, the two created Paris and its Environs. The book contains drawings of the French capital and its surroundings. Among his most famous works are the depictions of Speke Hall near Liverpool and Hampton Court Palace, southwest of London. His main works also include the Mansions of England in the Olden Time. Before that, Joseph Nash travelled all over the United Kingdom to study the mansions of his homeland in detail. The result was then published in four volumes in 1839. Joseph Nash is still considered one of the most important artists of the United Kingdom today.
